Dumbo hamster (Lambous dumbosus)

The dumbo hamster is a descendant of the long-tongued hamster. Its species diverged sometime ~??? years post-seeding. It is endemic to the dandelion forests of Origin island.

Description: The dumbo hamster is named after its enlarged pseudo-ears. It has an enlogated snout and tail as well as a long tongue. Because of its diet, it is rather small. Its body is about 4-5 centimeters long, with its tail adding an additional 5-7 centimeters. It reaches about 10-25 grams in weight. Unlike other hamsters, it has 5 toes on its front paws which aid it in climbing.

Typically found in a golden color, occasionally with white mottling.

Diet: The dumbo hamster eats pollen and nectar. It compresses pollen into pellets within its cheek pouches, which it then stores in its den.

Behaviour: It is diurnal, meaning it is awake during the day and asleep at night. It spends its waking hours visiting different plants. It uses its long, bristly tongue to scoop pollen and nectar out of flowers, which it then compresses into small pellets within its cheek pouches. It has a high metabolism and needs to eat constantly to survive.

It lives in hollows within dandelion trees and stores its excess pellets there.

Life Cycle & Reproduction: It gives birth to 2-4 young.
